Emergency Essentials To Keep In Your Car

Did you know that MAIF customers can join the Roadway Motor Club and receive roadside assistance 24 hours a day? In addition to joining the Roadway Motor Club, we recommend keeping some emergency essentials in your car just in case you find yourself in need of assistance while on the road. We’ve put together the following recommendations of things to keep in your car in an emergency. Learn our recommendations below:

First-Aid Materials

Accidents can happen while you are on the road. Having some first-aid materials on hand is a good idea. Whether you will need them while you are on the road or in the case of an emergency at your destination, this will ensure that you are prepared to provide care to yourself or to other people in the event of an accident. We recommend the following items to be included in your first-aid kit:

  • Adhesive Band-Aids
  • Safety pins (for closing bandages)
  • Gauze pads
  • Antibiotic ointment
  • Cotton balls
  • Cotton swabs
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Saline solution
  • Aspirin or Ibuprofen

This is not a complete list of first-aid essentials, and drivers should evaluate what other materials they know they need to keep on hand for their personal health. Many places online sell first-aid kits that are intended for use in your vehicle.

Car Maintenance Materials

Car problems can keep you from getting from point A to point B. If you are within miles of your destination, keeping routine car maintenance materials on hand can help you solve a quick problem in a pinch. Some important tools to keep on hand in your vehicle include a screwdriver, a wrench, and a utility knife. In addition to these basic tools, consider also keeping a tow rope, bungee cords, warning triangles, light sticks, a tire pressure gauge, and jumper cables. Whether your battery dies, your tires deflate, or you need to find another car that’s able to yank yours to safety, these car maintenance materials can help you get back on the road faster.

Comfort Materials

Intense rain, snow, or traffic can cause you to be on the road longer than you expected to be. As we’ve seen on the news, many drivers find themselves stranded when faced with unforeseen road blockages. It’s important to consider keeping some additional comfort materials in your car in case of an emergency. Some water bottles and nonpershiable snacks will provide sustenance until help arrives. Extra clothes and a spare phone charger will keep you more comfortable while you wait. If you become stuck in the mud or snow, keeping kitty litter in your car to sprinkle around your tires and help them regain traction may also be beneficial. For peace of mind, consider joining the Roadway Motor Club. With Roadway Motor Club, you can call 1-800-745-5791 for 24-hour roadside assistance as well as other member benefits, including mechanical first aid, tire service, towing services, and more.
