Do I Need Rideshare Insurance?

With your personal insurance, you have different levels of coverage for the car and drivers. But if you’re driving for a service like Uber or Lyft, additional insurance is going to be needed. Roadway Insurance Agency, Inc. provides many options for car insurance in Maryland.

Do I Need Rideshare Insurance?

When you’re with a rideshare company, they do offer insurance. But there’s a gap between the insurance the company provides and the personal insurance the driver has. The insurance provided by rideshare companies isn’t comprehensive and means you can be vulnerable in certain situations that rideshare driving puts you in. Rideshare insurance covers this gap.

What’s Covered With Rideshare Insurance?

The insurance packages that come with Uber or Lyft often cover issues when you’re driving. Usually, they only cover the times that a request has been accepted and you’re on your way to pick up the customer. They also cover when you’re taking the customer to their requested destination. However, if you’re signed into the app and waiting for a request, you aren’t covered by many of these plans.

When you’re working for a rideshare company, you have to be logged into the app and wait until a request is received. It’s this gap that isn’t often covered by traditional packages. Technically, you’re in a situation because you’re working. You may not be in your car and driving around otherwise. When you’re logged into the app, it should be considered that you’re working.

However, your basic rideshare policy usually doesn’t take this into consideration. If you get into an accident or your car is damaged when you’re driving and waiting for a customer, there’s a solid chance that your expenses won’t be taken care of. You may not be able to afford to repair or replace your car if the damages aren’t covered by insurance.

Payment Plans With Roadway

Insurance is something you need for your car, and it’s something you should be able to afford. If you’re able to pay your yearly premium in full upfront, you’ll get an 8% discount on the price.
