Minimum Insurance Requirements in Maryland


Maryland requires drivers to have a minimum coverage of 30/60/15:

  • $30,000 for bodily injury per person
  • $60,000 for bodily injury for two or more people
  • $15,000 for property damage

Uninsured drivers in Maryland are subject to suspension of license, fees, or removal of the privilege to register future vehicles. Penalties for Driving Uninsured in MD Include:

  • Loss of license plates and/or vehicle registration
  • Fines in the amount of $150 for the first 30 days and $7 per day thereafter
  • Vehicle registration reinstatement fee of $25
  • Inability to register future vehicles or renew registration(s) until violation is clear
